Specifically

I find these days that I am reading several blogs
where life events have become particularly hard on
the blog author.

It is amazing to me to find that I care so much about all
my bloggy friends even though I have known them
such a short time and have never met them in person.

I am sad for my friends who are struggling and they are
constantly in my thoughts and prayers.

That said, as I was leaving a comment on one of these
blogs the other day, I noticed the comment above mine said
something that weighed heavily on me all weekend.

"Let me know specifically what to pray for."
(emphasis mine)

At first I couldn't really put my finger on exactly what
it was about that statement that bothered me, but after
thinking about it and the blog it was left on, I realized
what my issue was.

The author of this particular blog has given no details
of the struggle she is going through in her life right now.
She has just let us know, specifically, that these are very
dark, hard times for her.

I don't think anyone should have to disclose anymore
information than that for us to be able to pray for them.

We know she is hurting, we know she is in need, and that
is all we need to know, specifically.

We serve a wonderful God who loves all His creation
and when we pray to Him on someone elses behalf,
He knows exactly what they need. Specifically.

Sometimes I think we use the excuse of praying for
someone to try and get more details than they are
willing or ready to share.

As in, "If you'll let me know what's going on, specifically,
I'll know more specifically what to pray for."

And I think, specifically, that it's the wrong way
to go about it.

Will you not pray for them if they don't let you in
on the specifics? And are you not putting God in a
tiny box?

Does any of that make sense or am I overreacting?

I totally get what you are saying, and I would like to think that people are praying for others not just in hard times but all times.
Great post!

That is a very good point and very well stated. We don't need to know the details because God already knows.

Hmmm, i guess I never thought about it. I just pray when my friends ask me to pray for them or when they come to my mind. You are right though. We don't have to know the specifics, because He already knows.

I know exactly what you mean...sometimes it feels like people are just fishing for good gossip when they ask "How are you doing?" That is not the case for all people, but for some you can just tell they want to know the good info. and don't really care about how you are really doing!

I see where you are going with this one too. I know that if my friends or blog sisters or sisters in Christ ask me to pray...I just pray, I ask for Gods will to be done throught the situation, and she they feel comfortable to share more then I know that they will in due time.

Blessing today!!!

you are totally right! it is in our nature to WANT to know...but in the end it shouldn't matter what the issue is---very well said :)

I understand what you mean.. hence my posts.. because when you lift "that name" in prayer, God does indeed know what they need and it may not be for "you" to know..Oh goodness I'm rambling, but yes I know what you mean ;)LOVE YA!

I think you're right. I think I've read in the bible that when we don't know what to ask or pray for it is then that God knows exactly what we need. Just cry out to him. Obviously that is not a direct quote of scripture, but I do believe it's in there somewhere. hahahaha

Hey, Jen...

You don't like SPIDERS? Then I guess you'd better not look at this post about Jason's brown recluse bite or this post about Harry our pet tarantula (that we no longer have).

Oh, you know you wanna see!!! Just go look. =0)

But stand back from the monitor. I don't want you to have a heart attack or anything like that.
