Flashback, circa 1983!!

Friends
Words: Deborah D. Smith
Music: Michael W. Smith
Packing up the dreams God planted
In the fertile soil of you
Can't believe the hopes He's granted
Means a chapter in your life is through
But we'll keep you close as always
It won't even seem you've gone
'Cause our hearts in big and small ways
Will keep the love that keeps us strong

Chorus:And friends are friends forever
If the Lord's the Lord of them
And a friend will not say never
'Cause the welcome will not end
Though it's hard to let you go
In the Father's hands we know
That a lifetime's not too long
to live as friends.

With the faith and love God's given
Springing from the hope we know
We will pray the joy you'll live in
Is the strength that now you show
But we'll keep you close as always
It won't even seem you've gone
'Cause our hearts in big and small ways
Will keep the love that keeps us strong

Chorus: And friends are friends forever
If the Lord's the Lord of them
And a friend will not say never
'Cause the welcome will not end
Though it's hard to let you go
In the Father's hands we know
That a lifetime's not too long
to live as friends.

BTW, the name of the song is just 'Friends.' This version was the only one
on the playlist website that was the full length so I chose it even though it
is not correctly named.

I lost two friends at two different times in high
school. This song was played at the funeral of the
first, and by the time second one died, I could no longer
listen to this song.
It took me years to hear it without
crying. Even now, it moves me in ways very few other
songs do. I miss both friends. Both were wonderful,
amazing christian kids. It was truly a hard thing to
understand, then and now.
I am thankful to have the knowledge that I will see
them again one day!!
Hope you are having a blessed Sunday!

Wow, that would be a really hard song to hear when your friend has died.

Girl you just threw me back to high school with that one. Wow that brings back so many memories. Sorry to hear about your loss of friends. That must have been so hard. It is a beautiful song though.

Friends! Wow that is a song that i can not listen too without crying, I went on mission trip with our church from 1989 to 1997 and every year the last night on the trip at campfire service our minister would sing Friends. Then when one of my best friends died his 1st year in college {he too went on the mission trips with us} they played this song at his funeral. It is hard to listen too this song but it is a very special song to me.

I still love that song to this day. Horrible that you had to lose your two friends. I remember playing that song as my best friend moved away.

Wow, that song would have reduced me to a puddle every time I heard it. I can't imagine the pain you went through.

I have never lost a close friend but I did lose my father so I know how hard losing someone can be.

Oh, and I know your fridge was laughing at you because it texted my fridge, who told me, lol!

This song always used to make me cry. I can't imagine the effect if I had known friends that had gone on to heaven at that time in my life.
