Sunday's Song.

Have a favorite worship song-new or old-that you'd
like to share? Have a story to go along with why
it's so special to you? Tell my what song moves you
and why-leave me a comment or, if you want to blog
about it, a link to your blog!

I love contemporary Christian worship music.
But as I have gotten older, I have developed a
great appreciation for the old hymns. As a
child I remember singing them without really
trying to understand the lyrics. Now that I can
understand the full meanings of these beautiful songs,
I truly enjoy not only singing them, but also just
reading and studying the words.

It Is Well

When peace, like a river, attendeth my way,
When sorrows like sea billows roll;
Whatever my lot, Thou has taught me to say,
It is well, it is well, with my soul.

Refrain:It is well, with my soul,
It is well, it is well, with my soul.

Though Satan should buffet, though trials should come,
Let this blest assurance control,
That Christ has regarded my helpless estate,
And hath shed His own blood for my soul.

My sin, oh, the bliss of this glorious thought!
My sin, not in part but the whole,
Is nailed to the cross, and I bear it no more,
Praise the Lord, praise the Lord, O my soul!

For me, be it Christ, be it Christ hence to live;
If Jordan above me shall roll,
No pang shall be mine, for in death as in life
Thou wilt whisper Thy peace to my soul.

But, Lord, ’tis for Thee, for Thy coming we wait,
The sky, not the grave, is our goal;
Oh, trump of the angel! Oh, voice of the Lord!
Blessed hope, blessed rest of my soul!

And Lord, haste the day when my faith shall be sight,
The clouds be rolled back as a scroll;
The trump shall resound, and the Lord shall descend,
Even so, it is well with my soul.
Horatio G. Spafford

I have to admit, I had never even read a few of these
verses until today. What an amazing ode to God's
unfailing grace! I love to sing this song, and I usually
sing the version done by Selah
(minus the African song they have as an intro)
listen here-when you get to the page,
scroll down and it's #20, 21, or 22.

This song also has an unbelievably moving story
behind it. Don't know the story?
Watch a moving video here
And what the video leaves out is the birth of two more
daughters and one son before their move to Jerusalem.
They also lost this son. So much loss. So much faith.

I was thinking about making this a regular
meme and adding a linky. Would you participate?

Hope you had a blessed Sunday,

TTFN,

Too MANY to name. It is Well has been one of my favorite hyms since I was a child. I don't know why, exactly, but both the lyrics and the melody really resonated with me, even when I was young. The swells and lulls of the music even remind me of the ocean, and I always wondered if that was done on purpose.

Some of my favorites right now are:

Praise You in the Storm

Amazing Grace: My Chains are Gone

How Great is our God

And one that I don't know the actual name of.... But the chorus goes like this:

I try to be so tough,
But I'm nothing without Your love.
Savior, please, keep saving me.

But, like I said...way too many to name. A weekly meme would be a great idea!

I love this old hymn. I still love the song "I keep falling in love with Him" & "Something Beautiful". Those really get me.

My favorite song is "Amazing Grace!" I like the contemporary version even more today. I grew up singing the old hymns too. I loved singing them as a kid but thought they were old fashioned as I grew up. And, like you, have found a new appreciation for them as I have gotten older. I really like that a lot of contemporary artists are redoing many of them.

I've sung this song many times. I think you're right about the hymns. It's hard to appreciate them as a child.

Oh, I love that song. It is a MOVING one, and has brought me to tears in church many a times. You can't sing that song and fake it. It either IS WELL or it's not. Ya know?

My favorite was always "Trust & Obey".
